September-2011

Dear Parents,

Happy Navratri !

The upcoming month is going to be very busy for all of us with the major festivals approaching…

Keeping that in mind, let’s reflect upon the activities of the month.

Everyone must be feeling a sigh of relief as the Summative assessments are over. It was an all academics month for all, sparing a few enjoyable moments like the Teachers day celebration and the Hindi Divas program.

Teacher’s day event was an event where children took up the responsibility of conceptualizing the program and did a wonderful display of various forms of art. I was taken aback by my class participation. Natasha, Aashna, Kesar displayed wonderfully choreographed dance numbers to entertain us. It was amazing to see the coordination among the students of all levels.

Hindi diva was the highlight of this month. The idea of showing the importance of Hindi, in our life, was well presented through a skit. The program was about how Hindi brings us together though we speak various regional languages at home. Great going Shivam with your Hindi dialogues!!!

Our Senior Choir also participated in the yearly Choir festival, where many schools participate. They made our school proud and stand out among all. Kudos to the School Choir! We also conducted a preliminary round for the selection of Heritage India Quiz. The final round of the quiz will happen in upcoming month. This would be an inter-house event.

This month will include various rounds of inter-house matches and selection rounds for various sports events. Encourage your child to participate in sports even if they have never tried them   (Football, Volley ball, athletics, Basketball etc.)before. The Sports Day though is in December, the planning and practices will soon start.

As far as academics is concerned, in Science, the children were introduced to Chemistry. We did a lot of experiments in the chemistry lab understanding the basic concepts of types of substances like acids, bases and salts. Physical and Chemical changes around us. Encourage them to do experiments at home with basic indicators like turmeric and China rose water. Our kitchen is the place where they can find many such substances to test.I would appreciate if you have a look at their notebooks once in a while especially the Science Journal. Guide them how to draw neat and well labeled diagrams. Our children need to know the importance of good presentation skills.

In mathematics the emphasis is on Geometry. We learnt various properties of triangles and parallel lines through various activities and will continue with Congruence of Triangles. The lesson on Congruence will also incorporate geometrical constructions, so make sure your child gets the supplies (geometry box with 2-3 sharpened pencils) every day. The upcoming Diwali vacations may have a component of project, based on the concepts learnt.

Last but not the least – a note to all parents:

-    Please check and sign your child’s diary every day and keep yourself abreast with the daily happenings.

-    Though children miss work at school during practices (choir /sports), we all are available to extend our help to them during lunch hour or after school. I would like to once again remind the parents to encourage your child, to take charge of their own studies and seek help of the teacher when necessary. We are always available.

-    Report Day is on 19th September. See you then!

Have a nice weekend!!
