The Orchid School Circular No. TOS/FRO/CIR/SS/10-11/10 Date: 3-8-11 Subject : NIE Newspaper for Class IV to IX Dear Parents It is true that we all know the value of reading. It is also true that we try to instill the same reverence for the written word in our children. However, it must be confessed that this is not always an easy task – television, computers, console games and playing seem a lot more valuable for children. Even if the child does read, we often find that they have no general knowledge or awareness of current affairs. To address these issues, we are hereby introducing the “Newspaper in Education (NIE)” Program, a Times of India initiative, in the school. The objective is not only to inculcate good reading habits and increase general awareness, but also to develop interpersonal skills and teaching tools. Why NIE? Below are a few of the merits of the program: • help students evolve into well-informed individuals capable of recognizing their talents • NIE News papers which are taken home by the students from Monday to Friday.
